Women who are self-conscious about the size of their breasts may be suitable candidates for a breast enlargement procedure at our breast enlargement Liverpool clinic. Surgery may become a viable option after extreme weight loss, breast feeding, pregnancy or ageing. These events can cause the breasts to decrease in size and become less firm. Fortunately, these problems can be rectified through breast enlargement surgery, which can restore self-confidence.
A breast enlargement procedure will start with an initial consultation at our Liverpool clinic to determine whether you are suitable candidate for surgery. Whatever your reason for wanting to progress with breast enlargement, our team will provide the very best guidance and support to help you make the right decision and achieve your desired results.
The actual psurgical rocedure typically takes about an hour, but times can vary. It involves a surgeon making incisions in the skin along the lower border of the breast, before inserting a breast implant underneath the breast tissue. The positioning of the incisions and implants can vary slightly depending on the tissue characteristics and the desired results.
After the procedure, patients usually have to wait for approximately a week for their stitches to be removed, but at our Liverpool breast enlargement clinic dissolvable stitches are applied and these stitches dissolve by themselves in approximately six weeks.

Breast implants are primary made up of silicone. Each implant has a Shell which is made up of silicone polymer and a filler material consisting of cohesive silicone gel.. Today, surgeons have a wide range of modern breast implants available to them, most of which are extremely versatile for a variety of applications. Typically a breast implant can last for approximately 10 years or more.
The decision to proceed with breast implant surgery entirely depends on the individual’s feelings and medical history. Here at Breast Enlargement Liverpool, we provide all prospective patients with a bespoke consultation, to discuss your exact personal needs. Good physical health and realistic expectations are traits of suitable candidates for a breast enlargement procedure.
After your procedure, patients can expect a short period of downtime, but your surgeon will be able to provide guidance on how long you need to rest. Intense physical activity, such as heavy lifting should be avoiding for approximately two months. Your surgeon will be able to advise on the exact period of time that’s required to make a full and complete recovery.
You will be given adequate pain killers and should not experience bad pain. Mild discomfort is to be expected particularly when you stretch your arms and work the muscles around the implant but this will soon settle. If it continues more than a couple of weeks you should consult your specialist.
Yes you will be given antibiotics at the commencement of the operation and may be continued for few days after the procedures. It is very important that you inform your specialist if you have any particular allergies to antibiotics.
Yes the surgical wounds will be covered with occlusive dressings and this should be kept clean and dry until the consultant or the nurse checks the wound in the clinic which is usually between 7 to 10 days’ time. You should report if there is any spotting on the dressing or discharge from the wound.
Yes you will be recommended a special support bra to allow the implant to settle in the right place, and you are encouraged to wear them for 6weeks after the procedure.
This depends on the nature of you work. If the work you do is not physically demanding, generally a week to 10 days should be sufficient to recover. However if your work requires strenuous effort then it is best to take at least 4 weeks off from work.
It is best to avoid strenuous exercise until the first few weeks after the procedure, however you can do gentle walking while you are recovering.
In the last decade, particularly in North America there has been some controversy about whether silicone can cause various diseases. Certain well conducted studies, including those conducted by an independent government review body, have demonstrated that silicone breast implants are safe and there is no evidence to suggest that they cause autoimmune disease.
Breast implants can, however, interfere with standard mammography as they may obscure some of the underlying breast tissue. It is important that you inform your radiologist that you have implants before having a mammogram as the technique could be slightly modified to improve the sensitivity of the mammogram.
Most breast implants are made of silicone, the outer shell is designed with a silicone elastomer and is filled with silicone gel or saline (salt water) or a combination of both (adjustable dual chamber implant). The present day cohesive silicone gel implants have a soft consistency similar to natural breast tissue and have the added benefit of not dispersing into tissues in the event of implant rupture. Saline filled implants tend to have the firmer unnatural feel and have a higher tendency to ripple (visible movement of fluid beneath the skin) or wrinkle (visible fold of implant shell).
The breast implants are available in round or teardrop (anatomical) shape. They also come in low medium, high and extra-high projections. Round implants generally give a proud cleavage and terse breasts while teardrop implants impart a more natural look to the breasts.
Silicon is a naturally occurring element and is found in sand, quartz and rock. It is currently been used in a variety of products including suntan lotions, moisturizing creams and various medical devices.
Breast surgery is usually performed under a General anaesthesia although it is possible to have this done under a Local anaesthesia. This can be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.
The breast implants are inserted through a small 4 to 5cm incision and the most frequently used site for placing this incision is along the crease beneath the breast, implants can also be inserted through incisions placed in the armpit and beneath the nipple- areola complex.
The most suitable site for the incision will be discussed at your consultation and the choice will depend on the area your consultant feels you would get the best results.
The breast implant may be placed behind each breast, inserting it either under your breast tissue (sub glandular) or behind the muscle on which the breast lies (sub muscular) as illustrated in the diagram below. Sub muscular placement is desirable in women who are very slim with very little subcutaneous fat, the advantages being edges of the implant are not visible as they are blunted by the overlying muscle and also there is a lower incidence of capsular contracture. One of the disadvantages of sub muscular placement is that the implant may move when the woman exercises.
Pain Control:
Generally after breast augmentation you should not have more than a mild pain and this usually responds well to ‘Paracetamol’ or ‘Co-codomal’. Please avoid taking aspirin or Voltarol as this may cause bleeding/haematoma formation. You will be given a supply of pain relief medications on discharge.
Antibiotics will be given before and after operation which is to minimize the risk of infection.
Wound dressings:
The surgical wounds will be covered with protective dressings and should be left undisturbed until you’re seen in the clinic which is with 7 to 10days after the operation. However if the dressing is soiled with discharge you will need to report to the hospital nurse or your GP’s practice as soon as possible for an examination and change of dressings.
Support Bra:
You will need to wear a good fitting support bra day and night for 6 weeks to maximize the benefits of the operation.
Rest and Relaxation:
It will be helpful to have someone with you for the first few days after returning home. You should be able to return to work within a few days, depending on the level of activity required by your job. Your breasts may be quite sensitive for two or three weeks so you will want to avoid direct stimulation. Once they are no longer sore, usually within three to four weeks after surgery, contact is fine.
Driving and work:
Do not drive or operate machinery for 2 weeks.
Exercise:
Resume gentle exercise after 2 weeks and avoid strenuous exercise for at least 6 weeks. Avoid stretching of upper torso and arms for a minimum of 3 weeks to prevent wound problems.
Silicone has never been shown to harm a breast fed baby. Implants themselves do not usually interfere with the ability to breast-feed. Breasts do enlarge as much as 3 bra cup sizes during pregnancy and breast-feeding and a very large implant will add further to the weight resulting in excessive stretching of the breast skin and sageness.
Breasts naturally change in size and shape with age. Augmented breasts will also change with age and the outcome is not predictable.
Silicone breast implants obscure breast tissue on conventional mammograms. It is therefore important to inform the radiographer (person who takes the x-ray pictures) if you had implants in your breasts and additional mammogram may be taken using special techniques. Breast ultrasound or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is useful additional investigations for specific breast problems.
Nipple sensation is altered in about 1 in 7 women after breast augmentation. It can be reduced, heightened or lost. These changes are usually temporary but can sometimes be permanent in a small number of women.
There is no doubt bigger boobs boosts confidence and self-esteem and improved self confidence tends to have a positive effect on a woman’s sexuality.
Most people tend have a nice thin scar, but hypertrophy and very occasionally keloid change is known to occur in a very small proportion of patients.
Some degree of mild asymmetry between breasts in terms of size, shape and placement on the chest wall is normal. breast enlargement may make these mild discrepancies more noticeable. Marked degrees of asymmetry between natural breasts can be improved by the insertion of different sized implants.
Breast implants have a limited life span (about 10 years) and women should be aware of the possible need for further surgery for change of implants and the future costs involved.
With age breast tissue tends to weaken. Consequently, tissue overlying the implant becomes thinner and the edges of the implant may become more obvious. This can be best prevented by placing the implant in a Sub-muscular pocket of the implant.
